Dr. Ujjwal Das is an accomplished academic and researcher serving as an Assistant Professor (Temporary) in the Department of Geography at Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, Odisha. He holds a Ph.D. in Geography from Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh, focusing on medical demography and the socio-economic correlates of morbidity among the elderly population in West Bengal. He also earned an M.Phil. and Master’s degree in Population Studies from the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, where he developed expertise in demographic and statistical research, and is a gold medalist in Applied Geography from Ravenshaw University. His academic base was built at Bankura Christian College under the University of Burdwan, West Bengal. Dr. Das’s research encompasses social determinants of population health, geospatial analysis of population, environment and health, mortality and fertility dynamics, migration, and public health policy. He has published over fourteen peer-reviewed papers in reputed international journals and contributed five book chapters, with his scholarly works receiving around 37 citations, 9 indexed documents, and an h-index of 3 according to bibliometric databases. A frequent participant in national and international conferences, he has presented numerous papers across India and abroad, including in Dubai. Skilled in SPSS, STATA, R, ArcGIS, MORTPAK, Spectrum, and GEODA, he integrates quantitative and spatial techniques in social science research. Multilingual in Bengali, English, Odia, and Hindi, Dr. Das actively engages in faculty development initiatives and interdisciplinary projects bridging geography, demography, and public health to address pressing developmental challenges in contemporary India.
